Hamidullah Qadri has signed a contract extension with Royal London Cup winners Kent which will keep him at the club until at least the end of the 2024 season.

Qadri joined the club ahead of the 2020 season and has since taken 34 wickets in 28 appearances.

As Kent won last season's 50-over competition, beating Lancashire in the final by 21 runs, Qadri took the key wicket of captain Keaton Jennings.

The 22-year-old off-spinner was the Spitfire’s leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 15, which included taking a career-best 4 for 26 against Northamptonshire Steelbacks.

The Afghanistan native also played three County Championship matches, taking eight wickets and scoring 208 runs at an impressive average of 52. Qadri was named Men's Emerging Player of the Year at the 2022 Spitfire Kent Cricket Awards.

"I had a great year personally in 2022 and to win my first trophy was really special," the 22-year-old said.

"Kent is the best place for me to be right now to continue my development as a player – I’ve benefitted a lot from working with the likes of Min Patel and James Treadwell, two guys that made their name as spinners at Kent – and I’m looking forward to the start of the season."

Director of cricket Paul Downton added: "Hamid has started to deliver on the potential he showed when he first joined the club. He is back to enjoying his bowling again and spinning the ball hard."

"He is still very young as a spinner but with his natural, self-taught talent and his fierce determination, Hamid is one of a number of exciting young players at Kent who will hopefully all grow together."
