George Scrimshaw will represent Northamptonshire from 2024 after turning down a new contract with Derbyshire in favour of a three-year deal at Wantage Road.

The 25-year-old began his career at Worcestershire before moving to Derbyshire in 2021.

A white-ball specialist with the ability to bowl over 90mph, only two bowlers took more wickets than Scrimshaw's haul of 23 dismissals in the 2022 T20 Blast.

In total, he has taken 57 wickets in 40 matches for Derbyshire.

Northamptonshire head coach, John Sadler, praised Scrimshaw's points of difference, stating: "I'm really pleased George chose to join us. He has extra height and will bring pace and bounce to our bowling attack across all formats.

"He's a proven performer in T20 and has bowled very well against us many times in recent seasons. He's a match winner and I see him having a major impact in both red and white-ball cricket for years to come, he's a great signing for us."

Scrimshaw added: "I'm very excited to be joining up with such a talented squad in all forms of the game.

"From an outsider playing against Northamptonshire you know the skill and the standard of the players is high. It's a ground I've always liked bowling at in the short form of the game and it's an exciting squad to be part of.

"The main goal would be to win a T20 title and be challenging for Finals Day every year."

On his time at Derbyshire, he continued: "This wasn't an easy decision and I've loved my time at the club and the successes I've had here, but I feel now is the time to take on a new challenge.

"Everyone at Derbyshire, from coaches to the players and supporters, have all been fantastic and they will always mean a great deal to me."

Derbyshire head of cricket, Mickey Arthur, admitted Scrimshaw was a player the club had "hoped to keep". However, they already have replacements lined up with Mohammad Amir and Worcestershire pacer Pat Brown joining the club in 2024.
