George Maddy has signed a rookie contract with Warwickshire ahead of the 2022 Royal London Cup.
The 16-year-old wicketkeeper has impressed for the 2nd XI in 2022, scoring 217 runs, including an unbeaten century against Worcestershire, in three Championship matches. He's also scored a half-century against Kent and completed five catches.
The Knowle & Dorridge CC product, who is the son of former Warwickshire and Leicestershire allrounder Darren Maddy, is in line to make his senior debut against Cheshire on July 31.
Director of cricket, Paul Farbrace, said: "George is a talented keeper/batter who deserves this opportunity in the Royal London Cup. With Alex Davies and Chris Benjamin playing in The Hundred, George will be able to learn and hone his skills within a first-team environment that is looking to win the competition.
"This experience will be perfect for his development and I'm sure he'll be ready if called upon over the next few weeks."
Maddy added: "This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I'm excited for the tournament to get going. Having been at the club since a young age, it has always been my dream to play for the Bears and I hope I can fulfil that during the competition."
