Middlesex seamer Ethan Bamber has signed a long-term contract extension with the county.
The 22-year-old has been a rare bright spark in the club’s campaign, having taken 37 County Championship wickets so far in 2021, making him the seventh-highest wicket-taker on the country.
Bamber will now remain at Lord’s until at least the end of the 2024 season, following teammates Stephen Eskinazi, Nathan Sowter, John Simpson and Blake Cullen in committing to the county.
The news follows a turbulent fortnight for Middlesex, with Angus Fraser stepping down as managing director of cricket and Nick Gubbins moving on to Hampshire.
“It's a great privilege to be able to extend my time at Middlesex,” said Bamber. “I love being here, playing for this club, and being out there with some of my best mates. Although it's been a challenging period for us, I can't wait to turn that around in the next three years and be part of something really exciting.”
Bamber is the seventh-highest wicket-taker in the County Championship
Since making his first-class debut in 2018, Bamber has claimed 84 victims at 24.36 apiece and was rewarded for his form this season with a place in a County Select squad for a three-day game against India, although he didn’t ultimately feature against the tourists.
Middlesex head coach Stuart Law added: “We are delighted that Ethan has committed his future to Middlesex by signing a long-term extension with the club.
“He has gone through a tremendous transformation over the last eighteen months or so and has become an important part of our Championship side. His work ethic and attention to detail are second to none. We look forward to seeing him continue his improvement over the next few seasons.”
