Essex youngster Robin Das has signed a two-year contract extension at the county.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a promising breakthrough season at Chelmsford.

He made a century on his first-class debut against Ireland, striking a spectacular 132 in just 118 deliveries before, only four days later, Das showcased his white-ball game in scoring 69 against Gloucestershire in the T20 Blast.

He also made consecutive double centuries for Essex's second team in September, making him the first Essex player to achieve the landmark. He hammered 214 runs off 215 balls against Kent at Billericay and followed it with 232 against Middlesex at Northwood.

A Leytonstone native who grew up in East London, Das emerged through the Essex academy and made his first-team debut in the T20 Blast in 2020.

He said: "I really feel at home here, and that environment has allowed me to play my natural game. I'm obviously someone who enjoys playing with freedom, and it's fantastic that the coaches and the rest of the guys we have here are willing to let me do that because it's a really fun way to play."

"It's great for all of us here that such a talented and dynamic batter like Robin has extended his time at the club," added Essex head coach Anthony McGrath.

"We knew he had a lot of natural talent when he was coming through the pathway, but we've seen that properly begin to manifest itself with the season he's just had.

"He has such a high ceiling, and we're now really looking forward to seeing him reach even loftier targets in the years to come."
