Individuals at Essex implicated in the damning racism report will avoid disciplinary action from The Cricket Regulator - but the club are braced for further action.

The club have been charged with a breach of ECB Directive 3.3 - the same rule Yorkshire were found to have broken - and it is alleged there was "systemic use of racist and/or discriminatory language" between 2001 and 2010 which the club "failed to address".

Last July, Yorkshire were docked 48 County Championship points, four in the T20 Blast and fined £400,000 (£300,000 suspended for two years).

Katharine Newton KC's report published in December found references to ethnic, racial and religious origins were "entirely normalised and tolerated behaviour" across a wider period between the mid-1990s and 2013. She upheld complaints made by Jahid Ahmed, Maurice Chambers and Zoheb Sharif; chair Anu Mohindru KC admitted to "fundamental errors in the past" and apologised to the victims.

Essex figures past and present, whose names were withheld, were reprimanded but punishments remained undisclosed for legal reasons.

The Daily Telegraph reports they will face no further action following a conclusion to that element of the investigation.

A club statement confirmed they have "fully cooperated" and will "participate willingly" with the Cricket Discipline Commission who will determine the breadth of the punishment.

Speaking to The Cricketer for the latest edition of County Focus for the July issue of The Cricketer magazine, chief executive John Stephenson anticipated individual charges wouldn't materialise. "They might face the same issue as we did in terms of naming," he said.

Costs relating to the scandal currently total £760,609, which includes a £50,000 fine from the ECB for the use of alleged racist language at a board meeting in 2017.
