Durham youngster Jack Brassell named in Namibia senior squad

Durham youngster Jack Brassell could make his senior international debut for Namibia after impressing at the Under-19 World Cup.

Brassell, an 18-year-old seamer, picked up six wickets in four matches, including three against eventual champions Australia.

The academy bowler has now been named in Namibia's squad for their Cricket World Cup League Two campaign in Nepal. They are set to face the hosts and the Netherlands in ODIs and T20Is over the next fortnight.

Brassell is the solitary teenager in a more experienced squad, featuring the likes of Gerhard Erasmus, JJ Smit and Ruben Trumpelmann.

It is the first of 24 tri-series that form part of the qualifying process for the 2027 50-over World Cup, which is being held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Canada, Oman, Scotland, the United Arab Emirates and the United States of America are also competing in the eight-team competition.

At the Under-19 World Cup, Namibia were bowled out cheaply by Australia and Sri Lanka but gave the eventual winners a scare, having them six down in a meagre run-chase.

They finished winless in the end, defeated by three runs against Scotland in one of the games of the tournament, 248 for 6 in a chase of 252.
