Durham spinner Liam Trevaskis signs three-year deal with Leicestershire

Trevaskis made 127 appearances for Durham in all formats, scoring 1,878 runs and taking 125 wickets, but is moving to Grace Road in search of regular red-ball cricket

Durham spinner Liam Trevaskis will leave the club at the end of the 2023 season after signing a three-year contract with Leicestershire.

The 24-year-old, who made his senior debut in 2017, has made 127 appearances for the county, scoring 1,878 runs and taking 125 wickets.

Over half of his appearances came in the T20 Blast, where he picked up 56 wickets and earned a reputation as a handy lower-order hitter, but first-class opportunities proved harder to come by, prompting his decision to move to Leicestershire.

Trevaskis has made 27 first-class appearances for Durham, scoring 992 runs at 30.06 and taking 34 wickets at 48.67, but has only featured twice under new head coach Ryan Campbell.

Commenting on his move, Trevaskis said: "Now is the right time for me to be playing regularly across all formats, which is something that Leicestershire was able to offer me. The team looks in a great place, with talent across the board and quality overseas players."

On his time at Durham, he added: "I have been in involved at Durham for over 10 years and I am grateful to have had the chance to represent the county.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Geoff Cook, John Windows and other coaches who have helped me along my journey so far. Like many others, I will always be indebted to Geoff and John for taking a chance on me."

Durham's director of cricket, Marcus North, hailed Trevaskis as a "fantastic servant" for the club while his Leicestershire counterpart, Claude Henderson, teased further signing news.

"We are extremely excited to welcome Liam to Leicestershire. He has proven to be a tough competitor on the pitch and comes with a great set of skills across all facets of the game, which will benefit the team in all three formats," Henderson said.

"Liam is a great addition to our squad for next season and we will have news on more exciting acquisitions to share in the coming weeks."
