Boland injured his foot on debut against Warwickshire, with scan results showing "significant recovery and rehabilitation" required
Durham have suffered a major blow with the news that Scott Boland has been ruled out of his stint at the county.
Boland's arrival was announced to much fanfare on the back of the club's promotion, with a sense that the Australian, who had never played in county cricket before, was perhaps the perfect overseas bowler.
But he injured his foot on debut against Warwickshire, with scan results showing "significant recovery and rehabilitation" required, which have ended Boland's time at Durham without a wicket.
Peter Siddle has been enlisted as a replacement for the next six County Championship games, beginning with the home clash with Essex from this Friday.
"It was important we acted quickly to replace Scott Boland and we have done that with the addition of Peter Siddle for the County Championship," said Marcus North, Durham's director of cricket.

"It is very disappointing to lose Scott after just one game and we wish him all the best in his recovery. We look forward to welcoming Pete to Durham and watching him play a key part in our success on the field in the coming weeks."
Boland signed for the Championship and T20 Blast fixtures up until the end of July, but he becomes the latest Australian to be withdrawn from county cricket this summer, albeit in unfortunate circumstances. Durham also lost Matt Kuhnemann to injury last April, to a back injury.
In Siddle, though, they have filled Boland's void with a regular on the county scene. He has enjoyed spells with Essex, Nottinghamshire, Lancashire and Somerset, with 755 first-class wickets to his name.
