Durham are monitoring Scott Boland after he suffered an injury scare on day one of their County Championship meeting with Warwickshire.

The Australian bowled 13 overs on his Durham debut, returning figures of 0 for 54, but also spent time off the field with a lower leg injury.

Boland is expected to be available for Durham in all formats until the end of July.

Playing down the severity of the injury, captain Scott Borthwick said: "Scott Boland is ok. He has a bit of a niggle in his ankle or calf, I think, but the way the scoreboard was, it was sensible for him to go off and get some treatment on it.

"There was no point in taking risks on him this time of year, especially with the situation of the game. We'll just monitor it."

It was a chastening day for Durham, who were taking to the field in Division One for the first time since 2016 (their season opener against Hampshire was abandoned with a ball bowled).

Led by Rob Yates (191) and Alex Davies (226 not out), Warwickshire took a bowling attack including Ben Raine and England duo Matthew Potts and Brydon Carse for 490 runs, with the run rate above five. Colin Ackermann picked up the only wicket of the day.
