Ripley will continue in his current role until the end of the season before transitioning into a new coaching position at the county
David Ripley is to stand down as Northamptonshire head coach at the end of the season.
Ripley, who replaced David Capel midway through the 2012 season, revealed the decision to his side on Sunday ahead of Northamptonshire’s County Championship fixture against Surrey, ending a decadelong tenure at the helm.
In his second summer in charge, he led Northamptonshire to the T20 Blast title, a first domestic crown for the county in 21 years. They earned promotion in the County Championship in the same campaign and won the Blast once again in 2016, with Alex Wakely as his captain.
There was another promotion in 2019, this time with Adam Rossington as skipper, though the circumstances of the pandemic have since prevented Northamptonshire from taking their place in Division One.
As a player, Ripley made 306 first-class appearances for Northamptonshire, scoring 8,681 runs and contributing 752 dismissals as wicketkeeper. He also played 281 List A matches and was part of the side that won the NatWest Trophy in 1992.
Prior to succeeding Capel as head coach, he worked as academy director in 2006 and also took charge of the second team.
Ripley will continue in his current role until the end of the season before transitioning into a new coaching position at the county.
