David Lloyd will leave Glamorgan at the end of the 2023 season after putting pen to paper on a three-year contract with Derbyshire.

The 31-year-old has spent his entire county career with Glamorgan, scoring over 7,500 runs and taking over 120 wickets in 230 appearances and captaining the side since 2022.

In first-class cricket, Lloyd averages 36.52 with the bat, passing 800 runs in his past two County Championship campaigns, and is a handy medium pace option with the ball, taking 96 wicket at 45.09. No slouch against the white ball, he boasts a strike rate above 130 in the T20 Blast.

Commenting on his upcoming move, Lloyd said: "I have enjoyed my time at Glamorgan and have made so many great memories, but I feel it's time for a change and the project at Derbyshire is one I'm really excited to be a part of.

"It's a county with a great coaching setup and a talented group of players, which I'm delighted to be joining."

On his time at Glamorgan, he added: "Glamorgan has been my life for so long and I've made friendships that will last forever.

"It has been a difficult decision to decide to leave but the opportunity to relocate and play closer to home in North Wales is what's best for my young family moving forward.

"I'm very grateful to have represented Glamorgan and honoured to have captained this group. I owe a lot to Matthew Maynard, who's been a great leader and friend to me, and to so many others who've helped me during my time at the club.

"I look forward to finishing the season on a high and striving for promotion into the first division."

Derbyshire head coach, Mickey Arthur, hailed the leadership qualities and consistency Lloyd will bring to his squad.

"David is an experienced county cricketer and one who will bring a great level of leadership and ability into our squad," he said.

"He has scored runs consistently throughout his career and gives us a different dimension at the top of the order.

"David's recruitment was key to our long-term plans and by getting the contract signed early, we've got time to continue shaping our squad ahead of next summer."

Lloyd's arrival in the middle order could take on an extra level of importance, with it understood by The Cricketer that Derbyshire captain Leus du Plooy is set to join Middlesex.
