The New Zealand allrounder is set to take part in his country's Test series against England and the World Test Championship final against India at the Ageas Bowl in June.
The Cricketer understands he will remain in Southampton beyond the end of the WTC clash, however, to link up with the south-coast county.
De Grandhomme has Blast experience, having played for Birmingham Bears in the competition in the past.
He has 3,353 T20 career runs at an average just above 24 and a strike rate in excess of 161.
The 34-year-old is part of a 20-man Black Caps squad for the two games against England, which are scheduled to take place at Edgbaston from June 2 and at Lord's from June 10.
New Zealand are set to chop that squad down to 15 for the WTC final.
