Chris Woakes suffers injury scare in comeback appearance

He had bowled only nine overs when he experienced some discomfort in his knee and came off to have it assessed

Chris Woakes has suffered a fresh injury scare in his attempted comeback game.

Woakes, who has not played a first-team game all summer, was playing for Warwickshire in the Second XI Championship match against local rivals Worcestershire.

He had bowled only nine overs when he experienced some discomfort in his knee and came off to have it assessed.

The club have made it clear that an abundantly cautions approach is being taken with Woakes' recovery and it would be premature to presume serious injury.

He is not likely to play any further part in the game.

Woakes had earlier scored 67 in Warwickshire's first innings.
