Ben Compton has joined Kent on a two-year contract.
The 27-year-old, who is the grandson of former England batter Denis Compton and a cousin of Nick Compton, averaged 51.08 for Nottinghamshire in the Second XI Championship in 2021.
An opening batter, Compton previously represented Kent in the Second XI Championship in 2019, making 116 not out on debut and finishing the season with an average of 62.40 from eight matches.
He also has five first-class appearances to his name – three of which came in last season’s County Championship - and made his List A debut for Nottinghamshire in 2021, scoring 71 in the Royal London Cup.

Commenting on signing professional terms with Kent, Compton said: "I have some good memories of wearing a Kent shirt for the Second XI. I’m looking forward to playing in front of Kent’s members and supporters, and giving this club my all.
"I’m grateful to Paul Downton for this opportunity given to me and I’m eager to repay the faith shown in me."
Paul Downton, Kent’s director of cricket, added: "Ben is a tenacious cricketer who has shown some real resilience in pursuing his career in professional cricket. He has been a consistent run scorer in the Second XI Championship and fully deserves this opportunity at Kent.
"As a specialist opening batter, he will add strength to our squad as we aim to be competitive in all three competitions next season."
