GEORGE DOBELL: Worcestershire and Warwickshire have spoken to the former managing director of England men's cricket in recent days in relation to their director of cricket vacancies
Ashley Giles could be set for a return to cricket after eight months on the sidelines.
Giles, who was effectively sacked from his role as managing director of England men's cricket after the Ashes defeat, is understood to have spoken to both Worcestershire and Warwickshire in recent days in connection with their director of cricket vacancies.
He has effectively held the role at Warwickshire twice previously and remains a strong candidate for a return. But it is, perhaps, the Worcestershire role which more likely to come to fruition.
Talks between the parties are understood to have gone well with Giles thought to be intrigued by the project required at the club and the hands-on role he would be expected to take.

The ECB performance director, Mo Bobat, and his deputy, David Court, are also understood to be of interest to Warwickshire, with Jon Lewis, the former Durham coach, another leading candidate.
Mark Robinson, the current head coach, has not currently applied for the role but is expected to do so before the closing date.
Meanwhile, Rob Andrew and Sean Jarvis are understood to be among those being considered for the job of Yorkshire chief executive. The pair are currently in the roles at Sussex and Leicestershire respectively.

Interesting that Paul Farbrace has only remained for a short time Regarding the list of potential replacements I really couldn’t see the sense of including 2 Strange to see 2 ECB candidates who have no background of significance in county cricket applying Surely there must be some credible people who want to take up such a role in a supposedly big county

Please let's go for a non international or ECB coach. Let's have a Warwickshire man who values the club and it's traditions. No more gung-ho cricket ideology. Over a season, it doesn't work. We need better recruitment and retention which has been poor over the last 3 seasons. Mo isn't the answer either, both in overseas limited overs and England when overseas he has not been fully committed of late. Great player upto to last couple of years.
