The former T20 captain leaves Wantage Road with one year left on the contract extension he signed in August 2022 to pursue opportunities elsewhere
Northamptonshire have parted company with former T20 captain Josh Cobb by mutual agreement.
The allrounder leaves Wantage Road with one year left on the contract extension he signed in August 2022 to pursue opportunities elsewhere.
Cobb joined Northamptonshire from Leicestershire ahead of the 2015 season and went on to make 201 appearances across all formats, scoring over 6,000 runs and taking 58 wickets.
An integral part of the T20 XI, he was named player of the final and contributed 464 runs (five half-centuries) and six wickets as the Steelbacks won the T20 Blast in 2016 and went on to captain the side between 2019 and 2022.

However, ahead of the 2023 campaign he was replaced as skipper by David Willey, a decision which left him "shocked" and "disappointed".
Cobb, who batted in the top four and opened the bowling for Northamptonshire in the format as recently as 2022, only made eight T20 appearances in 2023, scoring 76 runs. In the County Championship, meanwhile, his three outings yielded 69 runs.
"I have loved my time at the club. Winning the T20 Blast in 2016 is one of the highlights of my career so far and I hope the club can return to those glory days in the future," Cobb said.
"I'm looking forward to what the future holds in the next stage of my playing career."
Cobb joins Tom Taylor (Worcestershire) and Gareth Berg, Simon Kerrigan, and Graeme White (all retired) in leaving Northamptonshire in recent months.
However, as reported by The Cricketer on January 3, they have been linked to Zimbabwe allrounder Sikandar Raza as an overseas player for the T20 Blast.
