Davies arrived from Lancashire over the winter but was not available for the defending county champions' first game of the new term as he was serving a suspension
Alex Davies is ready to make his pitch for the wicketkeepers' gloves at Warwickshire, but he accepts he has work to do to usurp Michael Burgess.
Davies arrived from Lancashire over the winter but was not available for the defending county champions' first game of the new term as he was serving a suspension.
He may well make his debut against Essex from Thursday (April 21), but given Burgess's excellent start to the campaign - the keeper smashed 178 from No.8 against Surrey at Edgbaston - that start is very likely to come as a specialist batsman.
Not to be dissuaded, the 27-year-old is prepared to bide his time, and prove his worth.
Alex Davies is available for selection for Warwickshire at Essex
"Whatever they decide to go with, I will be 100 per cent behind them. I've been in situations before where I'm playing in a squad with high quality keepers such as Jos Buttler and Dane Vilas, but the way I see it is, Burge has the gloves," Davies told Warwickshire's official website.
"He is the Championship winner from last year and I'm totally aware of that.
"I'm not coming in with any demands, my aim is just to come in and enjoy my cricket and try to get into the team and score a lot of runs. Burge has had a whirlwind start to the season and I am chuffed for him."
Davies is set to be included in the matchday squad for the visit of Essex, while Australian overseas bowler Nathan McAndrew is also expected to be involved.
Nathan McAndrew is expected to be involved this week
McAndrew arrives for his first stint in county cricket and said: "Hopefully there will be a little bit more in the pitches than what I am used to bowling on over here.
"I'm not a huge swinger of the ball but a bit of seam movement is more my style and if there is any moisture in the wicket and a little bit in it for the bowlers, hopefully I can extract that.
"I'll also add as much as I can with the bat, but looking at the Surrey game from afar it seems the team is already in a very good place. There were some good scores down the order and that’s always really impressive. In all good teams, the tail wags. It’s that attitude that everybody wants to contribute in every way they can."
