Arnold replaces Stuart Barnes, who left the county last week, and will assist director of cricket Alec Stewart
Surrey have appointed 73-year-old former England international Geoff Arnold as their new bowling coach.
Arnold, who played 34 Tests and 14 one-day internationals for his country, returns to The Oval following the departure of assistant head coach Stuart Barnes.
He has worked with several counties, including Kent and Northamptonshire, since hanging up his boots in 1982 following a career which brought him 1,130 wickets at an average of less than 22.
Arnold, a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1972, has previously been Surrey coach and worked with Stewart when The Oval supremo was captain of the side.
Following Arnold's sacking in 1994, Stewart reportedly came close to quitting that role in protest.
"Alec gave his opinion to me - that Geoff should stay - and he was aware of what we might do, but we did not actually consult him," the chief executive, Glyn Woodman, said at the time.
