Ben Compton was leading a rearguard action for Kent on day two of their Rothesay County Championship game with Gloucestershire at Canterbury, steering the hosts to 318 for 7 at stumps, a deficit of 154.
Compton passed 3,000 first-class runs for Kent on his way to 144 not out, with a fluid innings that again belied his reputation as a dour strokemaker. Grant Stewart made 51 before he fell to Ollie Price in the final over.
Earlier James Bracey made 151 not out as Gloucestershire posted 472. Kent's Nathan Gilchrist took career best figures of 7 for 100, but the visitors' total was turbo-charged when No.11 Marchant de Lange hit a blistering 51 from 27 balls.
Old Trafford (day two of four): Lancashire 263 v Leicestershire 120-1 - Leicestershire are 143 runs behind with nine first-innings wickets remaining
Tom Scriven collected his maiden five-wicket haul in first-class cricket as Leicestershire dominated the second day of their Rothesay County Championship match against Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford.
Bowling accurately and at a good pace, the Leicestershire seamer finished with five for 46 from 20 overs as the home side were dismissed for 263, Marcus Harris making 77 against his former teammates, his fourth score over 50 in five innings for his new county.
In reply, Leicestershire were 120 for one after 29 overs at the close with Rehan Ahmed unbeaten on 61 after putting on 102 for the first wicket with Sol Budinger. The visitors, therefore, have a superb platform upon which to build a first-innings lead on the third day of this game.

Lord's (day two of four): Glamorgan 199, Middlesex 353-4 - Middlesex lead by 154 runs with six first-innings wickets remaining
Max Holden's seventh first-class hundred and his second of the burgeoning season at Lord's allowed Middlesex to remain on top on day two of their County Championship Division Two clash with visitors Glamorgan.
The 27-year-old left-hander, who made 184 in the season opener here against Lancashire, emerged from his cocoon of stoic defence in the morning to unfurl an array of attacking shots in the middle session in making 107.
Holden got the better of a joust with England spinner Shoaib Bashir in sharing a stand of 135 for the third wicket with Leus du Plooy (85 not out). Ben Geddes reached an unbeaten 50 in the day's final over, while Nathan Fernandes (55) earlier also passed the half-century mark to leave Middlesex 353 for 4 at the close.
