Cardiff (first day of four): Glamorgan, Leicestershire

Intermittent rain ensured it was a frustrating Monday for Glamorgan and Leicestershire as not a single ball was bowled on day one of the LV= County Championship contest between the Division Two sides.

Gloomy conditions lurked over Cardiff throughout the day to ensure Sophia Gardens was the only venue across the competition not to witness any action.

Indeed, as the sun briefly pierced through the grey skies above the Welsh capital, players took an early lunch in the hope of getting underway sooner in the afternoon.

Further rain triggered yet another delay, and even after conditions improved, with Leicestershire putting the hosts in to bat having won the toss, play was delayed due to bad light before later being abandoned due to more rain.

Hove (first day of four): Sussex 376-7, Derbyshire

Tom Clark top-scored with 96 and three of his team-mates also made half-centuries as Sussex took the first-day honours against second division strugglers Derbyshire at Hove.

Having put Sussex in, Derbyshire squandered any advantage offered by a pitch with a covering of live grass during a careless first session at the 1st Central County Ground when they conceded 150 runs without parting openers Tom Clark and Tom Haines.

Haines fell for 86 to the first ball after lunch and Clark went on to a season's best before both Oli Carter and Fynn Hudson-Prentice passed fifty for the fifth time this season after tea as Sussex closed on 376 for 7.

Sussex have yet to lose this season but badly need a second win to strengthen their hopes of promotion in the County Championship and would have been pleased with their day's work.

Worcester (first day of four): Yorkshire 154-0, Worcestershire

Adam Lyth and Finley Bean posted Yorkshire's highest opening stand for six years on a truncated day one of their County Championship match with Worcestershire at New Road.

The duo put on an unbroken 154 in 33.3 overs after being put into bat in what appeared to be helpful conditions for seam bowling.

Lyth and Bean cashed in on some wayward bowling and also profited from three dropped catches.

It was Yorkshire's best start to an innings since Shaun Marsh and Tom Kohler-Cadmore put on 162 against Surrey at The Oval in 2017.

Rain prevented any play after 2pm for three and a quarter hours and there was just time for 12 runs to be added in 3.1 overs before bad light ended proceedings.

Chester-le-Street (first day of four): Gloucestershire 280-6, Durham

Matt Parkinson claimed three wickets to halt Gloucestershire's progress on day one of their County Championship Division Two clash against Durham at Seat Unique Riverside.

Chris Dent impressed at the top of the order with a resolute knock of 85, while Miles Hammond offered a change of pace with a blistering fifty to steer the visitors to 170 for 2 before Parkinson led the Durham fightback.

The leg-spinner removed Hammond, Grant Roelofson and James Bracey while Matthew Potts added the scalp of Dent to reduce Gloucestershire to 280 for 6 before rain brought a premature end to day one.
