Chester-Le-Street (first day of four)Glamorgan 390, Durham

Kiran Carlson scored a brilliant century to allow Glamorgan to post 390 with the bat on day one of their LV= Insurance County Championship clash against Durham at Seat Unique Riverside.

The Glamorgan skipper scored his second ton of the season against the North-East outfit and his fourth of the campaign to provide the foundation of the visitors' score after opting to bat. Carlson was dropped on 67 and 107, and he duly made the hosts pay with his knock of 162 supported by 60 from Sam Northeast and a quick-fire 45 from Billy Root.

Durham toiled in the afternoon session amid Carlson's onslaught, but debutant Craig Miles and Ben Raine combined with four wickets apiece to lead a late fightback with the new ball to prevent Glamorgan from breaking past the 400-run mark. The visitors fell from 340 for 4 to 390 all out, spurning a decent opportunity to bat the hosts out of the game.

Bristol (first day of four): Gloucestershire 108-3, Leicestershire

Only 36 overs were possible on the opening day of the County Championship game between Gloucestershire and Leicestershire at Bristol.

While there was plenty of action at other venues around the country, heavily overcast skies greeted the players when they arrived at the Seat Unique Stadium and there was always the threat of a downpour until a curtailed final session.

Rain caused two long stoppages after Gloucestershire had won the toss and elected to bat. By the close of a frustrating day, they had posted 108 for three, Ollie Price unbeaten on 26.

Chesterfield: Derbyshire 111, Yorkshire 272-5 - Yorkshire are 162 runs ahead with five first-innings wickets remaining

Matthew Fisher delivered a timely demonstration of his international potential on a day of Yorkshire domination against Derbyshire in the County Championship match at Chesterfield.

Fisher, who played a Test Match in the Caribbean 15 months ago and could come into Ashes reckoning if England's fast bowlers pick up injuries, returned career-best figures of 5 for 30 to skittle Derbyshire for 111.

Ben Coad took 3 for 28 after Derbyshire had been put in and only some resistance from the lower order spared the home side complete humiliation after they had slumped to 26 for 6.

Yorkshire skipper Shan Masood heaped further misery on his former county with 67, his highest score of the season, and Dawid Malan made an unbeaten 76 before rain ended play early with the visitors 272 for 5, 161 ahead.

Hove (first day of four): Sussex 338-9, Worcestershire

Sussex County Cricket Club gave spectators free admission to the opening day of their Championship match against Worcestershire - and what a day they had.

They saw Sussex recover from 142 for 6 to reach 338 for 9 thanks to some late order hitting from first Nathan McAndrew and then Jack Carson and Henry Shipley, the last two putting on 85 for the ninth wicket, the biggest stand of the innings.

At tea, when Sussex were 205 for 7, honours looked appropriately even at the 1st Central County Ground for the second and third-placed counties in Division Two.

And it was fitting that Sussex (second) were on top of Worcestershire (third) when bad light drove the players from the field with eight overs remaining.
