Run-shy Lancashire relegated to Division Two

Only Kent, who had already been relegated, have picked up fewer batting points in the top tier than the Red Rose county, who are now unable to usurp Nottinghamshire, even with a win at New Road

Nick J has it exactly right but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for the likes of Chilton to do the decent thing. As he's Director of Cricket Performance (a silly title), when performance has been so dire all season, I do think, however, that this time the membership deserve rather more than another photo of him pretending to take fielding practice. But then there are those who think Lancs has ceased to be a cricket club and has become part of the entertainment business. Although I haven't found the last six months all that entertaining.

If you appoint a coach who won only 2 Championship games in two full seasons at his previous club, getting them relegated at the first attempt, what exactly do you expect? Well, he's now managed two relegations in three seasons and won just 5 out of 42 Championship games. So my question is not whether the coach should be moved on (I take it that the answer is beyond obvious) but when those who appointed him despite an already shockingly poor record are either resigning or being removed? Or is taking responsibility for the consequences of what looked like appallingly bad judgment even at the time another tradition cricket no longer recognises?
