The leg-spinner is the club's most successful bowler in T20 Blast history, having picked up 106 wickets in 131 games
Will Beer has signed a T20-only contract with Sussex to continue playing for the county in the shortest format.
The leg-spinner has made just 28 first-class appearances across a 14-year career, but he is the club’s most successful bowler in T20 Blast history, having picked up 106 wickets in 131 games.
Speaking to The Cricketer ahead of T20 Finals Day in September – at which Sussex were beaten in the semi-finals by eventual champions Kent – Beer had expressed a desire to continue playing across formats, with his then-existing deal at Hove coming to an end.
After signing this deal, however, he said: “My desire and drive to win trophies with the club where I’ve been since I was ten remains as strong as ever. This deal allows me to focus all my efforts on T20 and be the best player in that format I possibly can to give the team the best chance of winning games and ultimately the title.
“I’ll also have the time and opportunity now to think about other ventures, both for life after cricket but also in the numerous tournaments around the world that take place all year round.
“I’m looking at this next chapter in my life and career really positively and want to do everything I can to bring more success to the Sharks in T20 cricket.”
Beer is one of few senior pros remaining at Sussex following the departures of several key players over the last couple of seasons; Phil Salt and Chris Jordan were the latest to leave at the end of the summer. However, Travis Head has re-signed as an overseas player across all formats, while Steven Finn and Fynn Hudson-Prentice have both arrived to bulk up a squad that also lost seamers Stuart Meaker and Mitchell Claydon to retirement.
