Jack Taylor has stepped down as Gloucestershire's T20 captain with immediate effect.

Miles Hammond will take over as skipper for the remainder of the 2023 T20 Blast campaign, with Saturday's (June 17) clash with Kent at Bristol his first outing at the helm.

Taylor replaced Michael Klinger as captain in April 2020 and guided the club to Finals Day for the first time since 2007 later that summer.

However, Gloucestershire failed to reach the knockout stages in 2021 and 2022 and have started the 2023 campaign with a mixed run of three wins and four defeats.

Explaining his decision to step down, Taylor said: "I've loved every minute of captaining our T20 team over the past four seasons. One particular highlight was reaching Finals Day in 2020 for the first time in 13 years.

"I have built up a clear role in the T20 side over the last few seasons but now feel like it's the right time for me to step back and focus on my own game.

"My ultimate goal is to deliver match-winning performances for the club in T20 cricket and to build on last season's 50-over campaign."

Head coach, Dale Benkenstein, added: "It has been a pleasure working with Jack as captain for the last two years. He has been a great leader for Gloucestershire in T20 cricket and will continue to play a big part in the squad.

"I'm hoping Jack is able to play a big role in this T20 campaign and in the future, and I'd also like to thank Jack for everything he's done for me over the last 18 months and also for the club in his time as captain."
