Katherine Brunt has admitted to feeling as though England let the country down after missing out on a medal at the Commonwealth Games.

England were beaten by New Zealand in the bronze-medal match after losing against India on Saturday.

The White Ferns, who were trounced in the corresponding fixture in the group stages, needed fewer than 12 overs to knock off England's meagre total at Edgbaston.

"It felt like the actual whole country was behind us," said Brunt. "We're just sad we let them down. We couldn't quite do it."

Nat Sciver, captaining in place of the injured Heather Knight, won the toss and elected to bat, but regular wickets meant that the tournament hosts were well below par, losing nine wickets in an innings for the first time since the World Cup final in April.

Brunt, who made her 100th T20I appearance during the Games, made four runs and went wicketless against New Zealand. She hinted in the aftermath that she might be ready to call time on her glittering international career.

"I don't know, I need to reflect," she said, when pushed on the subject.

Two years ago, Brunt told The Cricketer that her main remaining ambition was to take part in the Games, which were featuring women's cricket for the first time. Having now accomplished that goal, it remains to be seen whether this marks the end. Speaking to The Cricketer last week, she admitted to having "thought about retiring most weeks" over the last two years.

She added: "I've got to get up in two days to play in The Hundred, which is savage. But that's just life, that's just sport. I need to reflect on that bit, see where I'm at and what my next goal is."
