England captain Heather Knight has been ruled out of the final T20I of the multiformat series against South Africa as a precaution ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

Knight suffered an injury to her hip joint during the series-winning victory at Chelmsford, subsequently missing Saturday's six-wicket win at Worcester.

She has since had an injection to treat the problem and is being assessed, with England's first game in the multisport event taking place on July 30 against Sri Lanka.

Should her team reach the final, they would have to play five games in nine games, with The Hundred beginning less than a week later, where Knight is due to captain London Spirit.

Knight's absence would be a major blow for England, with her experience particularly important following the decision to omit Tammy Beaumont from the squad for the Games.

Nat Sciver deputised as captain at Worcester and is set to do so again at Derby; Alice Capsey replaced Knight – one of three women to have hit a T20I hundred for England – and took her first international wicket with just her second delivery.
