The South Africa seamer claimed 3 for 28 in the absence of the allrounder to help beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 18 runs
Lungi Ngidi says Dwayne Bravo played a major role in inspiring his match-winning bowling display on his Chennai Super Kings return against Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.
The South Africa's availability was delayed by a period in quarantine having been on international duty.
On his first appearance of the season, in place of Bravo, he took 3 for 28, getting rid of Rahul Tripathi, Dinesh Karthik and Kamlesh Nagarkoti as KKR were restricted to 202 in pursuit of 221 to win.
Ngidi produced arguably the ball of the match to dispose of Karthik; a dipping slower ball that wrapped him on the pads.
And after the game Ngidi singled out Bravo for praise, having learned how to develop his variations from the CSK stalwart.
"There was a lot of pressure, Bravo has been doing very well for CSK. So, I had to come in and fill his shoes," he said in a post-match interview on the IPL website.
"I have worked very closely with Bravo on the slower bowls at the death.
"One of the slower bowls he has been teaching me for a long time came off and got us a wicket."
He added: "Deepak Chahar was on fire so I just tried to back him up a bit. Throughout the innings, I just tried to chip away at their batsmen.
"They were flowing at a stage, hitting boundaries for fun. I just tried to keep taking wickets."
