This shot wouldn't have cleared the ropes on most club grounds but it brought Joe Clarke a Big Bash six.

Clarke, playing for Melbourne Stars against Melbourne Renegades, miscued an attempted hoik over midwicket off Will Sutherland, with the ball shooting straight up in the air.

But for the retractable roof at Marvel Stadium, it appeared almost certain that a Renegades fielder would have swooped around and taken the catch. But there is a retractable roof at Marvel Stadium.

And the mis-timed shot got so much air that it clipped the structure, falling back to earth inside the inner ring, not far from the strip.

"That's so lucky," came the reaction from the Fox commetary gantry.

Big Bash regulations were changed six years ago, to mean that when the ball strikes any part of the stadium it counts as six. Previously, if it had struck part of the retractable roof, it would have been classed as a dead ball.
