Scorecard

Sydney Sixers edged to Big Bash victory at the SCG, despite a fantastic late charge by Asif Ali which nearly took Hobart Hurricanes to an unlikely win.

Asif clubbed 41 from 13 balls to lift his side to within touching distance of their second success of the campaign, but he could not quite carry the Hurricanes over the line.

In a rain-affected match, the Sixers managed 137 from their 14 overs as Kurtis Patterson (38) and Josh Philippe (43) put on 68 for the opening wicket in just 6.4 overs.

The loss of Philippe, however, caused a collapse for the Sixers as they lost four wickets for just two runs thanks to Shadab Khan and Patrick Dooley, who ended with two wickets apiece.

However, Hayden Kerr (32) rallied with James Vince and steered the hosts to a highly competitive 137 for 6 from their allocation.

The Hurricanes struggled to get their run chase started with none of the top order breaking the 20-run mark.

Sean Abbott and Kerr both collected a pair of wickets, while Todd Murphy played a crucial hand by going at just six runs per over.

The Hurricanes looked flustered and it was all plain sailing for the Sixers until Asif arrived at the crease. His 13-ball blitzkrieg included four fours and three sixes, and had he got a few feet more elevation on the shot which led to his dismissal - caught at cow corner - he may well have pushed the Canes to victory.

As it was, Jordan Silk held onto the catch, and the Sixers could celebrate their first win of the campaign.

The Sixers move up to sixth in the BBL table, while the Hurricanes remain fifth.
