The Nottinghamshire and former England head coach replaces David Hussey, who departed at the end of the 2022/23 Big Bash League campaign to become head of men's cricket with Victoria
Melbourne Stars have put their faith in former England head coach Peter Moores to break their Big Bash League duck.
The current head coach at Nottinghamshire has been appointed as David Hussey's replacement on a two-year deal.
Hussey departed following the 2022/23 season to become head of men's cricket with Victoria.
Moores led England men in two separate spells from 2007-2009 and 2014-2015. Across stints with Sussex and Notts, he has captured two County Championship titles, a pair of T20 Blast titles and the Royal London Cup.

It will be a rare step into overseas T20 cricket for the 60-year-old - the only overseas coach currently in the BBL - who led Karachi Kings in the 2022 Pakistan Super League.
"It's a great honour to be appointed as the Melbourne Stars head coach for the next two seasons," he said.
"I'm really looking forward to the opportunity to work with some of the best players in the world but also to help develop the rest of the squad to get this club back where they belong.
"I have loved watching the Big Bash from afar and I cannot wait to be a part of the competition and get to work with the squad."

Top of Moores' in-tray is ending the Stars' wait for a major trophy. Only they and Hobart Hurricanes are yet to taste BBL glory in 12 editions of the competition and they haven't qualified for the playoffs in any of the last three.
Twice runners-up, they lost to Sydney Thunder in 2015/16 and were edged out by local rivals the Renegades in 2018/19.
Last term was among their worst. Captain Glenn Maxwell missed the entire campaign with a broken leg while on-the-field Stars accrued just six points - their lowest tally in BBL history - to finish bottom of the regular-season table for a second time.
Their squad also faces a period of upheaval during the off-season after Adam Zampa, who stood in as skipper in the absence of Maxwell, requested a trade to Melbourne Renegades. The move would see Sam Harper move in the opposite direction.
