Sydney: Sydney Thunder 111, Perth Scorchers 112-1 - Perth Scorchers won by nine wickets

Scorecard

Perth Scorchers avenged home defeat by Sydney Thunder and kept a stranglehold on top spot in the Big Bash with an emphatic victory at the Sydney Showground.

The Scorchers were beaten by six wickets by Thunder on January 4, but they never looked like falling to the same opposition twice in the same season as an incisive bowling display set up a romping chase.

Only three Thunder batsmen reached double figures, as Andrew Tye took 3 for 27, and David Payne, Lance Morris and Matthew Kelly claimed two wickets apiece, in a 19-over collapse.

David Warner, making his first Big Bash appearance since 2013, made 19 and Nathan McAndrew hit 21 from No.8, but the Thunder innings would have been much worse had it not been for Ollie Davies.

Davies again showed his immense promise with a 36-ball 52 before he was stumped by Josh Inglis after Ashton Agar spotted the batsman advancing and chucked in a faster, wider delivery.

When Davies was dimissed, Thunder's hopes of a competitive score went with him.

Scorchers continued their domination with the bat, as Stephen Eskinazi and Cameron Bancroft quickly went about their business in the powerplay.

English import Eskinazi, who had registered failures in each of his first two runouts for the club, hit 40 from 26 balls in a first-wicket stand worth 77 in 8.5 overs to effectively put the game beyond Thunder.

And when he departed, Bancroft took the lead, reaching his second half-century of the competition and finishing with 55 from 40 balls, before Aaron Hardie took Scorchers to the win with a six.

The visitors still had 43 balls to spare.
