Melbourne Renegades have re-signed Will Sutherland for the upcoming Big Bash campaign.

The allrounder, son of former Cricket Australia chief executive James, has agreed a one-year extension, having played 29 matches over the last four years.

Sutherland, 22, was named as the Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year for 2021 and is the latest talented youngster to commit his immediate future to Renegades, following in the footsteps of Mackenzie Harvey and Jake Fraser-McGurk. Sutherland took 24 wickets in seven Sheffield Shield matches for Victoria last season.

"It was an easy decision to sign on for another year," he said. "I'm committed to the Renegades and want to be part of us turning things around on the field."

Renegades have been busy in the off-season, picking up Liam Livingstone with the first choice in the inaugural overseas player draft. Spinners Akeal Hosein and Mujeeb Ur Rahman are also onboard, with Nic Maddinson in charge as captain.

"We're pleased to have Will sign on with the club for another season," said James Rosengarten, the team's general manager. "Will has all the attributes to be an influential player for us at this level – with bat, ball and his athleticism in the field – and is one of our young leaders."

Jon Wells, a stalwart of the competition with Adelaide Strikers, has also joined Renegades after being let go.
