England internationals Liam Dawson and David Payne have earned overseas replacement deals for the 2023/24 Big Bash.

Liam Dawson has been signed by Melbourne Stars as a partial replacement for Harry Brook, who pulled out of the tournament earlier in November to manage his workload. Dawson will be available for the Stars' opening three matches.

The allrounder, who has never previously played in the Big Bash, has scored 2,457 runs and taken 191 wickets in 245 T20 appearances.

"Liam was a targeted selection after we knew Harry Brook wouldn't be available for the first three matches," said Melbourne Stars' general manager, Blair Crouch. "He will add a lot of quality to our spin bowling stocks and we're looking forward to seeing what he can produce in the opening stages of the tournament."

Payne, meanwhile, has been picked up by Adelaide Strikers to replace allrounder Rashid Khan. The Afghanistan allrounder is missing the tournament to undergo surgery on his lower back.

Pace bowler Payne was a member of Perth Scorchers' title-winning squad in BBL12, taking 10 wickets in six appearances, and will be available for the entire season, including the knockout stages should the Strikers qualify.

Strikers head coach, Jason Gillespie, said: "He is a proven performer at the highest level and will bring a wealth of experience to our team. His wicket-taking ability, skills in the field and positivity around the group will all be invaluable to our outfit."
