Hobart: Perth Scorchers 167-7, Hobart Hurricanes 125-9 - Perth Scorchers win by 42 runs

Perth Scorchers completed a group-stage double over Hobart Hurricanes thanks to a second half century of the season for Kurtis Patterson.

Opening the batting as Ashton Turner's side continue to play around with the makeup of their top order, the left-hander hit six fours and five sixes in a 48-ball 78, the highest score in the game by a considerable distance and the best T20 effort of his career.

No one else found life as easy, with Josh Inglis falling without scoring and Mitch Marsh – who smashed a hundred in the reverse fixture – reaching 21 off the same number of deliveries. Turner made 12, while Laurie Evans was dismissed for just nine.

It was left to Ashton Agar to give the innings late impetus, smashing 30 off just 11 balls, including 18 off the final over of Perth's innings, bowled by overseas player Jordan Thompson.

Riley Meredith accounted for Inglis in the first over of proceedings, but he was subsequently substituted out for Thompson without bowling again. Thompson, the Yorkshire allrounder, claimed three wickets, including those of Patterson and compatriot Evans, while Tom Rogers emerged as the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 2 for 21.

Hobart's leg-spinners were not so fortunate: Sandeep Lamichhane conceded 39 runs in his four overs, while Wil Parker's single over was dispatched for 18.

Hurricanes' reply simply never got going: Patterson alone hit more sixes – and the same number of fours – as Perth grabbed control of the game in the powerplay.

Matthew Wade and D'Arcy Short are one of the most destructive partnerships in Big Bash history, but neither could get going: Andrew Tye had Wade caught at midwicket, while Short missed a reverse sweep against Agar. In between, Caleb Jewell was caught on the boundary edge.

Harry Brook was then bowled by a googly from Peter Hatzoglou, with Ben McDermott giving Tye his third wicket. Thompson was bounced out by Tymal Mills, and when Tim David was run out in the next over, any hopes of a successful run-chase were extinguished.
