What's the match?

Sydney Sixers face Sydney Thunder in the 51st game of the 2021-22 Big Bash.

When is it taking place?

The game is set for Saturday, January 15. The first ball will be bowled at 7.40pm local time (7.40am GMT).

Where is the match being played?

The game will be held at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Who's got the form?

Sydney Sixers avoided a third straight loss with a victory over the Melbourne Renegades last time out.

Ben Dwarshuis was the star of the show with career-best figures of 5 for 26, complemented well by Sean Abbott, who picked up 2 for 18.

The lack of form for Josh Phillipe is a concern for the Sixers who started the tournament superbly with an unbeaten 99. Since then, his highest score in seven innings has been 32, including three ducks, which has affected Sixers' output at the top of the order, especially with James Vince now on England duty.

Thunder come off the back of a defeat against Hobart Hurricanes, with Alex Hales and Jason Sangha are both in fine form. Sangha is the second-highest run-scorer in the competition with 360 runs, averaging 60.

With the ball, Pakistani quick Mohammed Hasnain has impressed in his short time in the tournament so far, putting pressure on the batters in the powerplay.

What's the key match-up?

Thunder are impressive with the new ball with Hasnain and Gurinder Sandhu getting the ball to talk in the early stages.

Against a struggling Sixers batting lineup – with Vince absent and Philippe for once short on form – early inroads could give Thunder an edge at the tournament approaches the business end.

With Sam Billings now keeping wicket for England in Hobart, the pressure has ramped up on Hales and Sangha to maintain their recent levels. Sixers might just sense an opportunity if they can dismiss the pair early.

Who are the umpires?

Umpires will appear here when available.

What's the weather forecast?

A fairly warm day in Sydney, with highs of 21 degrees Celsius, although there is also a fair chance of thundershowers.

What are the squads?

Sydney Sixers: Moises Henriques, Sean Abbott, Jackson Bird (Lawrence Neil-Smith), Daniel Christian, Tom Curran, Ben Dwarshuis, Jack Edwards, Mickey Edwards, Daniel Hughes, Chris Jordan (first five matches), Hayden Kerr, Nathan Lyon (Nick Winter), Ben Manenti, Stephen O'Keefe, Josh Philippe, Lloyd Pope, Jordan Silk, James Vince (England duty), Shadab Khan

Sydney Thunder: Matthew Gilkes, Alex Hales, Jason Sangha, Ben Cutting, Ollie Davies, Daniel Sams, Baxter Holt, Nathan McAndrew, Tanveer Sangha, Gurinder Sandhu, Mohammad Hasnain

What are the odds?

You can get odds of 10/11 on a Thunder win, with Sixers coming in at 5/6.

What's the prediction?

Thunder, with the explosive pairing of Hales and Sangha at the top of the order, could put Sixers' attack under pressure early on.

With both teams looking to secure a play-off spot as soon as possible, Thunder will have just too much for Sixers.
