Alex Carey signs Adelaide Strikers contract extension

The 29-year-old will now represent his hometown club through to the end of the 2023/24 season

Australia wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey has signed a contract extension with Adelaide Strikers.

The 29-year-old will now represent his hometown club through to the end of the 2023/24 season.

Carey, who is also vice-captain, was part of the Strikers side that won the competition in 2018 and has since gone on to establish himself as Australia’s wicketkeeper in white-ball cricket.

He struck his maiden ODI hundred in a dramatic victory over England in the final game of their summer tour to the United Kingdom.

Carey said: “I’m very happy to be staying at the Strikers for the next four years being my home team and it is an unbelievable feeling playing at Adelaide Oval in front of the fans, family and friends, and I really hope that can continue this season.

“The Big Bash is a competition I have loved playing in each year since I first signed, and I can’t wait for it all to get started.”

He will be on international duty through to early December, with Australia facing India in ODI and T20I series beginning on November 27.

Strikers head coach Jason Gillespie added: “Alex is a key part of the group, a player and leader of the highest standard, and for him to be at the Strikers for the next four years is a massive result for this franchise, the city and our fans.

“We feel we have assembled a squad that covers every facet of the T20 game, and we’ll be ready to hit the ground running for a huge tenth season of the Big Bash.”

Carey is the team’s all-time third-highest run-scorer and has also contributed more dismissals than any other Strikers wicketkeeper.
