MCG: Adelaide Strikers 108, Melbourne Stars 109-1 - Melbourne Stars won by nine wickets

Scorecard

Adelaide Strikers flopped to a miserable defeat at the MCG which could do harm to their post-season chances in BBL12.

The Strikers made the trip to face Melbourne Stars off the back of victories over Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Renegades, and would have fancied their chances against an opposition which had only won twice all season.

But Stars turned the form book upside down, and secured a BBL12 double over the Strikers, courtesy of a superb bowling performance.

Adelaide slumped to 108 all out, with four balls of their 20 overs left unused, before watching the Stars rattle off the required runs inside 15 overs - inflicting a considerable net run rate blow on the Strikers in the process.

Nathan Coulter-Nile led the way with the ball for the Stars, with the allrounder claiming figures of 3 for 17 from four overs, while Liam Hatcher took 2 for 18 and Adam Zampa 2 for 20.

Only four Adelaide batsmen reached double figures; Harry Neilson top-scored for the visitors with a 33-ball 40. The performance was made all the more meek given the Strikers were 23 without loss after 10 balls, with Matt Short having struck two sixes and a four.

Once he was dismissed by Hatcher, however, the wheels came off, and the away side lost their entire side for 85.

Joe Clarke wasted no time in the reply, bullying the Adelaide attack in the powerplay in making 35 from 28 deliveries.

Tom Rogers' unbeaten half-century and Hilton Cartwright (16 not out) saw the Stars home.
