Aaron Finch replaces Maddinson as Melbourne Renegades captain for the remainder of the competition
Melbourne Renegades captain Nic Maddinson has ruptured his ACL, ruling him out of the remainder of the Big Bash.
The opener, who has played three Tests for Australia, suffered the injury in innocuous circumstances while jogging in the field against Perth Scorchers and had to be helped from the field aboard a medical cart.
Aaron Finch, who stood down as Renegades captain in November 2021, has stepped in to fill Maddinson's void for the rest of the tournament.
Prior to his injury, Maddinson – who began the competition with 87 against Brisbane Heat – had been in wretched form. He managed just three runs in his five most recent matches, with a high score of two in that period.

Renegades face Melbourne Stars on Tuesday in a derby at the MCG; Jake Fraser-McGurk has been added as Maddinson's replacement.
Peter Handscomb, who struggled in high temperatures during Renegades' defeat by Perth, is also absent from Renegades' squad.
