One of the cheaper bats on display at The Cricketer's testing day, it outperformed its initial impression, with most of the scepticism focused on the diameter of the handle

For Darren Stevens - tester in chief at The Cricketer's testing day - the gold tinge reminded him of Jofra Archer's chain.

That didn't mean he was immediately taken with the look of the bat, but he was impressed with how it played. "It pings," he said.

Tester Nick was less keen; he was confused by the narrow handle, which he found uncomfortable on his wrists.

He conceded that the handle did, however, make for an easy pickup.

James agreed with that last point, praising the bat's middle and general feel. "It has a decent shape," he noticed.

One of the cheaper bats on display, it outperformed its initial impression, with most of the scepticism focused on the diameter of the handle.

If you can get your head around that nuance, this wouldn't be a bad option for a club cricketer, coming in at a weight of 2lb 8oz and – at £179.99 with Owzat – a decent value option.

Like many subcontinental brands, the middle was lower down the bat, but you wouldn't describe it as bottom-heavy. Indeed, its highest average mark was for its pickup and feel.
