A little over 24 hours after completing a thrilling Test match against New Zealand, England - albeit a different group of players - were back in action in the first of three ODIs against Bangladesh.

Dawid Malan scored a special century (114 not out off 145 balls) to rescue England from 65 for 4 and secure a three-wicket victory.

The Cricketer rates the individual performances of every player during the first ODI in Mirpur.

BANGLADESH

Tamim Iqbal (23 & DNB): Started brightly, picking off everything short, wide or full, and looked comfortable before being cut in half by Wood. Decision to bring a slip in for Buttler paid off immediately. 6

Litton Das (7 & DNB): More tentative than Iqbal, pinned lbw one ball after freeing his arms for a six. 2

Najmul Hossain Shanto (58 & 0-9): Maiden ODI half-century for the 24-year-old who will be a big wicket for England for the remainder of the series. 8

Mushfiqur Rahim (17 & DNB): Always looked a bit iffy against Rashid and top-edged his sweep - otherwise had been batting nicely in tandem with Shanto. Smart work behind the stumps to stump Vince. 4.5

Shakin Al Hasan (8 & 1-45): Out rather cheaply after going for the big heave after Moeen and having his stumps rearranged. Solid with the ball. 6

Mahmadullah (31 & DNB): Allowed himself to settle before taking on England's bowlers and formed a productive partnership with Shanto. 6

Afif Hossain (9 & DNB): Out tamely with a poorly timed shot during Bangladesh's mini-collapse. 2

Mehidy Hasan (7 & 2-35): Contributed little with the bat. Caused England headaches in his first spell, collected a couple of wickets, and only allowed Malan a couple of shots. 7

Taskin Ahmed (14 & 1-26): One half of a tricky ninth-wicket partnership with Islam and took a good catch by Buttler to remove him. The pick of Bangladesh's bowlers, particularly in the powerplay. 8

Taijul Islam (10): Late cameo with the bat. Two early breakthroughs to remove Salt and Vince as well as accounting for Woakes. A touch expensive but problematic for England. 7

Mustafizur Rahman (0* & 0-42): A couple of expensive overs proved costly. Not at his best. 5

ENGLAND

Jason Roy (DNB & 4): Another ODI, another early exit. The wolves are circling. 2

Phil Salt (DNB & 12): Never settled with the bat before being undone by the skiddy surface. 2

Dawid Malan (DNB & 114*): Simply magnificent. Knew when to soak up the pressure when his teammates didn't, picked his moments and timed England's chase to perfection. He's becoming increasingly undroppable. 9.5

James Vince (DNB & 6): Tried to be positive, danced down to Islam, missed and was stumped. Not the shot to play with England already in a bit of bother. 2

Jos Buttler (DNB & 9): Recovered from an early mistake to take three catches and mixed up his bowlers well. Needed to stay in and support Malan - didn't. 4

Will Jacks (1-18 & 26): Maiden ODI wicket and grew into the game with the ball. Made a start with the bat and was just getting settled with a couple of boundaries when his wicket fell. 6.5

Moeen Ali (2-35 & 14): A tidy performance with the ball; stuck around as Malan's foil with the bat, sharing a crucial 38-run partnership. 6.5

Chris Woakes (1-28 & 7): Picked up the early wicket of Litton Das, got some good movement and the most disciplined of England's bowlers. Flummoxed by Taijul to depart for an ugly edge. 7

Adil Rashid (2-47 & 19*): A touch expensive but often looked dangerous with the ball. Two big wickets in Shanto and Mushfiqur. Delivered with the bat by sticking with Malan and taking whatever singles came his way - one half of a match-winning 51-run stand. 8

Jofra Archer (2-37 & DNB): Took some tap in the powerplay but came back well in his later spells. Deserved his wickets but too many wides and no balls. 7

Mark Wood (2-34 & DNB): Marked his return with two wickets, including the dangerous Mahmadullah, and turned the game when introduced late in the powerplay. 7.5
