Australia have added Andy Flower, the multi-Ashes winning head coach, to their backroom team in a consultancy role.

The ex-Zimbabwe captain is in place for the World Test Championship final against India at the Kia Oval starting on Wednesday (June 7).

He then remains with the camp for the series against former employers England, which begins at Edgbaston on June 16.

"Today was his first time around the group," said Cummins. "He'll dip in and out, a different voice.

"He knows these conditions really well, hopefully, knows the opposition. If he can give us one little bit of insight into playing in England that we haven't thought about, then it's worth it.

"Andrew's (McDonald) worked with him quite a bit and you've seen us over the years bring in different people at different times. Pretty lucky to have someone as experienced as Andy."

Bidding for a first series win in England since 2001, Australia have enlisted the services of the last coach to lead either team to an away victory.

Flower was the architect of England's historic 2010/11 triumph, their first in 24 years down under, and was also at the helm for the successes in 2009 and 2013 at home, after which he stood down.

His coaching stint also included a T20 World Cup win and an ascent to No.1 in the ICC Test rankings.

Up until 2019, he remained part of the ECB pathways and since departing has built a reputation on the overseas limited-overs circuit, holding roles in the Indian and Caribbean Premier Leagues, as well as the Pakistan Super League, among others.

Last summer, he led Trent Rockets to victory in the men's Hundred.
