Marcus Harris will not take to the field for Australia on the third day of the fifth Ashes Test after suffering split webbing on his left hand on Friday.

The Australian batsman suffered the injury when fielding in the evening session on day two, which included him dropping Joe Denly in the slips when the England batsman was on zero.

Harris required seven stitches for the issue, and while he will take no further part in fielding during England's second innings he is expected to bat in Australia's run chase.

Cameron Bancroft has taken the 27-year-old's spot in the field as they attempt to bowl England out on day three.

Harris has endured a difficult series at the top of the order, with a highest score of 19 from five innings after replacing Bancroft as an opener.
