It has been a busy week for Middlesex; Stephen Eskinazi put pen to paper on a new deal on Monday, just a matter of days after fellow batsman Nick Gubbins left to join Hampshire
Nathan Sowter has become the second Middlesex player to sign a new contract in two days as a busy week for the county continues.
Stephen Eskinazi put pen to paper on a new deal on Monday, just a matter of days after fellow batsman Nick Gubbins left to join Hampshire.
Leg-spinner Sowter joined Middlesex in 2014 and quickly established himself as a canny white-ball bowler; he claimed two wickets in his first over for the club on debut against Kent in the 2015 T20 Blast.
Since then, the Australia-born spinner, who is now England-qualified, has gone on to make more than 100 appearances for the county, with the vast majority of those in the limited-over formats.
“I’m absolutely delighted,” he said. “I’ve always loved playing here at Middlesex, so it’s good to get another year and I’m really glad to be given the opportunity to continue playing here.”
With Ollie Rayner and Ravi Patel both having left the county in recent years, Sowter is now the senior spinner on Middlesex’s books, with youngsters Luke Hollman and Thilan Walallawita both making an impression since being handed their debuts.
Middlesex signed both Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Chris Green to complement Sowter through this year’s T20 Blast campaign, while he has also earned a deal in The Hundred with Oval Invincibles.
Middlesex head coach Stuart Law added: “Nathan is a competitor on the field, and we love the way he is committed to the cause in all matches he plays. It’s great to have him on board for another term and we look forward to seeing what he can produce to help us win matches during this next phase of his professional career.”
