Where are the English contingent plying their trade in this year's IPL? JOE WILLIAMS provides the answers...
The 2023 Indian Premier League is just around the corner and, as has become the norm, there are plenty of Englishmen involved.
Here, The Cricketer runs down the full set, franchise by franchise...
Moeen Ali: The Warwickshire allrounder returns to the Super Kings for a third successive season and lifted the title back in 2021. Moeen has an impressive record in the IPL, striking above 140 with the bat and maintaining an economy below seven with the ball. He frequently bats a lot higher up the order for CSK than he does for England, sometimes coming in at No.3.
Ben Stokes: This will be the England Test captain's first IPL outing – and indeed, his first overseas franchise gig - since 2021, when he was still at Rajasthan Royals. He became Chennai's most expensive player when he was picked up for 1.625m at December's auction and is something of a triple-threat.
Phil Salt: The Lancashire wicketkeeper-batter could make his IPL debut after being picked up by the Capitals at auction. An explosive top-order batter, he has featured in many of the big T20 leagues, including winning the PSL with Lahore Qalandars in 2022 and reaching the final of the T20 Blast and SA20 with Lancashire and Pretoria Capitals, respectively.

Mark Wood: The Durham and England quick could make his belated debut for the Lucknow Super Giants after missing the 2022 campaign with an elbow injury. Wood was one of the stars of England's 2022 T20 World Cup-winning squad, taking nine wickets with an economy of 7.71, but encountered yet more injury frustration which led to him missing the semi-final and final.
Jofra Archer: Archer's return to fitness is a welcome sight for England fans after his nightmare two years of injury. The Sussex pacer has hit the ground running since returning to action in January, taking 10 wickets in six outings for MI Cape Town and producing figures of 6 for 40 against South Africa in just his second international outing since 2021. He also impressed during England's recent tour of Bangladesh while his IPL record prior to this season reads 46 wickets in 35 appearances.
Liam Livingstone: Livingstone is on the comeback trail after suffering a knee injury during England's Test series in Pakistan. The explosive Lancashire allrounder has been hot property on the franchise circuit over the pwst couple of years and impressed in his first season with the Kings, scoring 437 runs at a strike rate of 182.08 – of players to score more than 100 runs, only finishers Tim David and Dinesh Karthik boasted higher strike rates.
Sam Curran: Six teams were vying for Curran in this year's auction before Punjab Kings secured his services for £1.85m, making him the most expensive player in IPL history. With such a price tag comes enormous pressure but the allrounder is on something of a hot-streak, which began when he took 13 wickets, including 3 for 12 in the final, to steer England to T20 World Cup glory in 2022.
Jos Buttler: England's white-ball captain comes into the IPL in impressive form after topping the run-scoring charts in the IPL – he scored 391 runs for sister franchise Paarl Royals. He was the player of the tournament in the 2022 IPL, scoring 863 runs, including four centuries and four half-centuries, to help Rajasthan Royals reach the final.
Joe Root: The Yorkshire batter is more widely renowned for his efforts in Test cricket but this is his second overseas T20 outing of the year. He played for Dubai Capitals in the ILT20, averaging 53.50 with the bat. Root has never previously featured in the IPL.

David Willey: The Northamptonshire allrounder made his IPL debut for Chennai Super Kings back in 2018 and joined RCB last season, featuring on four occasions. Willey is a versatile pace-bowling allrounder, who can be deployed as a pinch hitter – he often batted in the top order for Yorkshire in the T20 Blast.
Reece Topley: This will be the Surrey seamer's first IPL campaign – he was nearly an injury replacement for CSK in 2021 but the deal didn't get over the line. The England international, a tall left-armer, has seen his stock rise over the past 18 months, earning contracts in the Big Bash and SA20. Last year, he took 17 wickets in 16 T20Is and is an asset in the powerplay and at the death.
Harry Brook: The Yorkshire batter has had a meteoric rise over the past 12 months or so, earning England caps in all three formats, establishing himself as a mainstay of the Test side and winning the T20 World Cup. Sunrisers spent an impressive £1.35m to secure his explosive batting.
Adil Rashid: It is somewhat surprising that one of the most consistent white-ball bowlers only has one IPL appearance to his name. A two-time world champion, the Yorkshire spinner brings with him a suitcase full of variations and just shy of 300 T20 wickets.
