Nottinghamshire have signed bowlers Ben Lister and Fazalhaq Farooqi for the group stages of the T20 Blast.

Lister will be available for the first eight matches while Farooqi will link up with the squad for the final six games.

They join New Zealand international Will Young, who will call Trent Bridge home from April to July, in the overseas ranks, with head coach Peter Moores keen to add left-arm pace options to his squad following Shaheen Shah Afridi's success for the Outlaws last year.

The Pakistan quick took a team-leading 22 wickets in 14 matches in 2023.

"Given the success Shaheen had with us last year, bringing in left-arm seam options again made sense - it creates a different set of challenges for batters," Moores said. "In Ben and Fazalhaq, we have proven wicket-takers who can make an impact on the game in crucial moments, which is what we are after.

"Ben is an exciting talent who is establishing himself on the world stage after consistent performances domestically. He's made a difference in the teams he has played for and has the potential to do the same with us.

"Meanwhile Fazalhaq is a world-class player with experience on the franchise circuit and in international cricket, with a proven ability to bowl at the death. His knowhow under pressure will be important in our group stage run in."

Lister, 28, has taken 67 wickets with an economy of 7.92 in 60 T20 matches across his career, including earning 10 caps for New Zealand.

Farooqi, meanwhile, whose contract is subject to him receiving an NOC (no-objection certificate) from the Afghanistan Cricket Board, has 92 wickets with an economy of 6.86 in 76 T20s and has featured in franchise leagues around the world, including the IPL, PSL and Big Bash. In 37 T20Is for Afghanistan, he has picked up 37 wickets.
