Maxwell smashed the highest score in Big Bash history as Melbourne Stars recorded the third-highest score ever in T20 cricket
Glenn Maxwell hit the highest-ever Big Bash score for Melbourne Stars against Hobart Hurricanes on a historic night at the MCG.
In an incredible display of ball-striking, Maxwell smashed an unbeaten 154 off 64 balls to beat Marcus Stoinis' previous record of 147.
It powered the Stars to 273 for 2, the highest BBL team total and the third-highest in all T20 cricket.
Maxwell wasted little time getting his eye in, reaching 50 in 20 balls, his fastest half-century in the competition.
The hundred came in the innings' 11th over and took 41 balls, bettered only in the BBL by Craig Simmons (39 balls) in 2014.
And with an upper-cut that went for two in the 18th over, Maxwell moved to 149 to pass Stoinis, who was batting at the other end and hit 75 not out off 31 balls.

He needed just 61 balls to achieve the feat, 18 less than his teammate did, while his final score was the ninth-highest in T20s.
Elsewhere, Maxwell's 22 fours was a T20 record, and his 26 boundaries in total was another BBL landmark.
The Stars' team score fell five short of the record of 278, held by both Afghanistan and the Czech Republic.
Maxwell and Stoinis needed 19 off the last over to surpass this figure, but could only manage a relatively pedestrian 13.
